Government to support the digitization of the Ghana Police Service and the fight against crime

Image
To support the digitization of the Ghana Police Service and the fight against crime, today, I presented over $2 million worth of mobile identification devices and a Mobile Device Management System to the Ghana Police Service donated by the Margins Group, an indigenous Ghanaian Identity Systems Company.    These mobile devices and systems will capture the unique biometric and biographic information of individuals, verify vehicle registration, drivers license, road worthiness certificate and insurance, and match the data against other databases including the National Identification Authority’s database.    The devices will give police officers real- time access to data on individuals, vehicles, criminal histories etc. and therefore help in the fight against crime.

Earlier this month, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo paid a working visit to the 97.3 km Tema to Mpakadan Railway project which currently stands at about 99.4 % completion. Currently, plans are far advanced to secure some railway coaches for operation on the line once work is complete within the first quarter of 2023.  The president opened vehicular traffic on the Afienya Road over Bridge and Inspected work on the Volta rail bridge amongst others as part of his visit. The Tema-  Mpakadan railway project is part of a multi mo dal transport project involving rail, road, and lake transport systems from Tema to Buipe. This project upon completion will improve Existing port operations at the Tema; resulting in a reduced vessel waiting time, and container dwelling time which would lead to the competitiveness of the port and enhance safety.

On Thursday, 8th December 2022, I was in Takoradi, capital of the Western Region, for four good reasons - firstly to commission a new state-of-the art Dry Bulk Terminal; secondly to commission the Atlantic Terminal Services (ATS) Container and Multipurpose Terminal; thirdly to cut the sod for the construction of an Oil and Gas Services Terminal; and lastly to launch Prime Meridian Dock (PMD) Company’s Floating Dry-dock.  Government is determined to improve maritime trade, and position it as a major economic growth engine. The Port of Takoradi was conceived mainly because its initiators thought it was an ideal location for the export of raw materials with which this region is endowed.  But, as I have said on many occasions, the idea that we can project our development goals on the production and export of raw materials, and still think we can rid ourselves of the shackles of under development and poverty, is not a well-grounded one. The benefits of these projects are con...
